Role: Singing Voice of Jem

Appearing: All three days

Biography

Britta Phillips is best known as the iconic singing voice of Jem from the hit animated series "Jem and the Holograms." Every song that made Jem a rockstar—from "Truly Outrageous" to "Glitter and Gold"—that's Britta's voice bringing the magic to life. Fans may also recognize her from the 80s movie "Satisfaction," which she co-starred in alongside Julia Roberts and Justine Bateman.

Britta was a voice actor on stop-animation shows "Moral Orel" and "Mary Shelley's Frankenhole" and currently records and tours with her husband as Dean & Britta and in the band Luna. She released her solo album "Luck or Magic" in 2016.

She recently re-recorded songs from the original show for the 40th anniversary album on vinyl and streaming for Hasbro, including Halloween and Christmas songs. When Marie from Hasbro reached out last November, Britta thought it might be a hoax—but it turned out to be real, and now fans have new Jem music sung by the original voice.

Performing Jem songs live in a club and singing Jem songs with over 100 fans at the JemCon 2025 post-con pool party were some of her favorite recent JemCon memories. Britta is beyond excited to attend JemCon 2026: All In The Style in San Diego and looks forward to another truly outrageous JemCon.

“What JemCon Means to Me” In Britta's own words:

My first JemCon was in 2010. I didn't even know what cosplay was (!!) and that's where Samantha and I met for the first time, which is crazy! We both had packed polka dot dresses, so we were in sync.

When people started telling me their stories—beautiful, and often intense—about the part Jem & The Holograms had played in their lives, I was so moved, humbled, and surprised. I hadn't expected that at a "con". On the last night, we ended up at a gay bar dancing until the wee hours.... I'd forgotten my ID but, hey, I'm JEM, so no problem!

I took my mom to JemCon 2015, and I wish I'd had the chance to take my dad (he wanted to come!). He played keys on all the Jem songs and got me the audition with Anne Bryant, who I'd met when I was 12.

I felt so much love and support at JemCon 2025... from the pre-con (first ever!) Jem concert, to the final night when 100 of us ended up in the hotel pool singing Jem songs and other 80s faves at the top of our lungs—organizers, volunteers, guests and attendees all together (including Anne!!!). It was pure joy and a much needed respite for us all at the end of another crazy year.

At first, I was a bit hesitant to sing at JemCon, but over the years, seeing how happy it makes people, I've embraced it.... and even a little Jem cosplay lately....

Last November, when Marie from Hasbro DMed me on Instagram asking if I'd be interested in re-recording original Jem songs, I thought it might be a hoax. Luckily it turned out to be the 40th anniversary album! It was so much fun singing these songs again and to work with the all-women production team. I'm especially happy for the fans who have been waiting so long for this. And there's more to come next year!

Over the past 15 years, the JemCon "alumni" have become friends, and really, my Jem family. JemCon 2026 will be my 6th (including 2020's virtual) and I can't wait for the family reunion!
