Biography

I'VE BEEN WRITING SONGS SINCE I WAS FOUR YEARS OLD.

MUSIC SCHOOL BEGAN AT FIVE; MY TEENS WERE AT the HS MUSIC & ART AND PERFORMING ARTS (“FAME”), then came Berklee School in Boston, and U. Rochester, /Eastman School of Music Undergrad.

To those who believe that ‘those who can’t do, teach,’ I say, “Nah, there’s so much to learn" ; So I kept studying throughout the years until I ran out of degrees. I learned quite a lot, I worked hard, it was fun, and other people and organizations paid for all of that , so why not do it?

In my teens, my Mentors were the Greatest Arranger, my idol, Peter Matz and his client, Barbra Streisand, and, the Great Judy Garland, and the Jazz Star, Saxophonist-Composer, Gerry Mulligan — a master of “song form:” They were the GENEROUS, KIND PEOPLE WHO TAUGHT ME SO MUCH about drama and musical elegance.

NYC WAS A GAS IN THE 60S AND 70S, especially.

I got into the Music Business right out of College; Pow! I broke the ceiling; [I am immensely pleased about that ]; it happened Quite fast!

In the 70's (before most of you were born), it was all LIVE ORCHESTRA PRODUCTION, my favorite thing. I WORKED ALL OF THE TIME! I've written several thousand pieces of music (songs, ARRANGEMENTS and other score compositions -- FINAL, full up "Music Productions."

ENOUGH ALREADY!

MY FAVORITE ASSIGNMENT WAS "JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS" -- So much work! It was murder, but it was fun.

I cast ELLEN and BRITTA and GORDON as the singing leads: great choices, they were wonderful!

I STILL SEE ELLEN (PIZZAZZ), BUT I MISS EVERYONE ELSE— well, ALMOST EVERYONE ELSE: I MISS DIVA GRAY, FLORENCE WARNER, GORDON GRODY, and Britta’s father, PETER PHILLIPS, (our Pianist), AND ALL OF THE People IN OUR RHYTHM SECTION, AND ALAN VARNER, our engineer at PENNY LANE.

I have won lots of awards, but I don’t know where they are. Maybe the people who stole my favorite orchestra scores also stole my awards. They were very shiny — looked like Gold. Maybe, just maybe, Donald Trump took them? What do you think?

MY FAVORITE THING THAT I NEVER EXPECTED IS THAT I WOULD MEET ALL OF YOU -- That you would be all grown up and wonderful, and that I could meet you and love you, AND THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.🌹

Fun Facts

I wanted to be a composer or a dentist.

A DENTIST? YES, BECAUSE I worked as a child model (2-1/2 to 6) for pepsodent, and I came to love teeth- your teeth, my teeth...teeth! I still feel that way.

and when I was eight, I won a nys science fair prize from the set of teeth I made out of plaster of Paris, and the charts and diagrams I made to illustrate everything important about teeth.

I never told anybody that. (I still have my dental mirror that my dentist gave me in 1957).

book news

1."the happy servant" is moving along - I'm working with agent reps to acquire film rights options.

2.Nearing completion of "the art of intimidation (hazel's path to wholeness)," which is a spoof of a self-help book. it's a really funny book!

3.Also, I have a semi-autobiographical work that I've been writing for quite awhile titled "I remember m," which I will re-entitle "I remember jem."

those last two books should be ready by autumn, I hope. they will be ebooks, so I will let you know.

3. --2027 will involve two more books to finish and drop: My English - Spanish novel, "The world through your eyes (el Mundo por tus Ojos)," is ready for pitching next year to producers in Spain -- some possibilities there.

4, 'cut to the chase' is a succinct manual of formulas, stylistic choices and musical/mathematical skills that have been reliably utilized by composers, editors and animators in order to create film scores that are accurate and dramatically enhanced, whilst also, musically elegant.

the required film mathematics coordinate and collaborate 3 timing systems: tempo of music (bpm in tenths of seconds, and/click track in eighths of seconds), lapsed feet and frames of film, (at 24 frames per second) and seconds (scene mapping), in order to create a precise connection between action and music for the desired dramatic effect. the book is already written but will need some more editorial (diagrams) in order to produce the finished ebook: 60 pages of clear film theory, with a clear index of formulas, so that in one quick read, the reader will understand the professional theory.
