We are pleased to announce that Barry Harman (JEM Animated Series Lyricist) will be joining us in person at JemCon 2025!

Barry Harman is a multi-award winning book writer, lyricist and director for theater (2 Tony nominations, 4 Outer Critic Circle Awards, 3 Drama Desk nominations) .  As a writer for TV, he has won 2 Primetime Emmy Awards (one as a staff writer THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW, the other for an episode of the classic sitcom ALL IN THE FAMILY, cited by its legendary producer Norman Lear as one of the ten best episodes in the show's long history as the number one program in America.  He also authored the HBO Emmy Award-winning family special HOW DO YOU SPELL GOD? 

If you grew up in the 1980's, chances are you have encountered Mr. Harman's work as a head writer, lyricist and producer for educational children's TV, including THE GREAT SPACE COASTER, MY LITTLE PONY, ALLEGRA'S WINDOW and his personal favorite, the truly outrageous animated series JEM & THE HOLOGRAMS, for which he penned over 150 song lyrics.

A graduate of Harvard, where he served as an editor of The Lampoon and president and author of Hasty Pudding Theatricals, he is a member of The Dramatists Guild, SDC, Writers Guild of America  West and ASCAP.

He wrote and directed the five-time Tony-nominated Broadway musical Romance/Romance, which has been produced in cities all over the world, including London's West End, Japan and Germany.  He wrote and directed the Outer Critic Circle award-winning off-Broadway musical Olympus on My Mind. He is currently at work on several new projects.  One musical, LONG ROAD HOME, is tentatively scheduled to debut in New York in the upcoming theater season.  

Mr. Harman currently lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with his husband of many years, Jay Hering. He previously was a virtual JemCon guest and is delighted to be attending in person this year and meet all of the truly outrageous fans.
